The youth group is an important and lively part of life at St. Mark’s. We classically will meet up on Sunday morning during the service, for various activities. The purpose of the youth group is to make disciples of the young men and women who are involved in our activities. We consider that being a youth group is like being part of a team, where each person uses his gifts and skills in different ways for the common good.
On the first Sunday of the month, we will focus on building each other up in our faith. We will separate between the 11-13s (Jolt) and the 14-18s (Impact). Jolt will be learning more about God by creating videos which speak of God in a creative way. These videos will then be published on the Jolt webpage. Impact will be gathering together to discuss a big question of faith which members of the youth group are struggling with, which they will have chosen beforehand.
On the second Sunday of the month, we focus particularly on the Spirit. On these Sundays, instead of staying in for the time of worship with the rest of the church, we gather in the youth room from 10.30, and one of our worship leaders will lead us in a time of worship, with songs predominantly from the Soul Survivor repertoire. And as we worship, we will see how the Spirit leads us, and we will spend some time waiting for him to move among us, inspire us with prophetic words and empower us with his gifts. We can’t say for sure what the Sprit will do. One thing is sure: we will spend time waiting for him.
The third Sunday of the month is our family Service, On Your Marks, so there are no youth specific activities although they are all warmly invited to participate in On Your Marks.
On the fourth Sunday of the month, we’re trying something new. We’re going to meet up at 10.30 in front of church, and go out into the streets of Versailles, to go and bring food and warm drinks to homeless people. If they want to hear the Gospel, we will also gladly share it with them and give out Bible for them to keep, but our main focus will be to proclaim the Gospel with our actions, and use words if asked.
Then on the months where there are five Sundays, we take time out on the fifth Sunday of the month to chill, relax, and generally enjoy music, food, drinks and each other.
