The Christmas for Jesus event is the Sunday school Christmas party and takes place on a Saturday afternoon, mainly to give the parents a chance to do some Christmas shopping I think! This year we had as our theme "spies" ferreting out the true meaning of Christmas. The children came dressed as spies with notebooks, disguises and lots of energy and enthusiasm.
As they arrived they made identity badges with their photo on, next they made a huge frieze of the nativity scene which we put up in the sanctuary for the rest of the church family to see. We watched a video of some spies finding out what Christmas was all about and what Jesus had to do with it-it was very amusing but thought-provoking too. The children then had the choice of making an angel decoration for the Christmas tree or a Christmas card with an angel on-angels being God's special messengers a bit like spies. We then had a treasure hunt around the sanctuary, finding the hidden clues which led eventually to the treasure-the crib scene with the baby Jesus. We finished with a reading of the children’s version of the Christmas story, some carols and a prayer before the children went home with a balloon saying "Happy Birthday Jesus" and a small chocolate Santa.
I think they all had a good time, I know I enjoyed it and we had a great team of helpers who worked really well together-Vanessa, Juliette, Anne, Karen and Alan, Naomi and Bethany, Sarah and extra help from Kevin, Paul S and Catherine and Christina in the office. A big thank you to all of them.
